What is Melasma?
Melasma, also referred to as chloasma, occurs when irregular patches of darkened skin arise on the face or forearms. These tan or brown patches often occur evenly over the brow, cheeks, nose, or upper lip. The symmetry of melasma distinguishes it from other skin conditions that cause darkening of the skin. Melasma is not at all uncommon and is found more frequently in women. It can be due to sun damage or from hormonal fluctuations, such as with pregnancy and menopause. People who have darker skin types are more prone to melasma than people with lighter complexions. Our team treats melasma regularly utilizing state-of-the-art UltraLase laser technology at Regenesis Aesthetics in Huntsville, AL.
How is Melasma Treated?
There are lots of solutions for the treatment of melasma. During your UltraLase laser treatment, we will direct light-based energy onto melasmic areas throughout the skin. The light will effectively help to break down hyperpigmentation, allowing it to be absorbed by the body. Though these spots may darken initially, they will likely diminish after about seven days. Although laser procedures can work to decrease the appearance of melasma, additional tan, brown, or gray areas may develop as time goes on. Periodic treatments may be recommended to help maintain your results.
What are the symptoms of melasma?
Melasma is characterized by the discoloration or hyperpigmentation mainly on the face. Three types of common facial patterns have been identified in those with melasma:
- Centrofacial (center of the face) – hyperpigmentation among the nose, chin, forehead, cheeks, and upper lip
- Malar (cheekbones) – melasma patterns amid the top of the cheekbone
- Mandibular (jawbone) – hyperpigmentation parallel with the jawline
Regenesis Aesthetics Reviews
This place is excellent and I will recommend to all my friends. They said they could help me and they didn't disappoint..
They take such great care of you here! I got a laser treatment on my face and was in and out within 90 min (30 min for numbing cream, 30 min procedure, 20 min post procedure hydrating mask and post-procedure instructions) and am very happy with the results. The tech they have is truly state-of-the-art, and Shelby was a delight to work with. What an incredible gem of a clinic to have in Huntsville!
The staff there is very informative of their services they offer and more than anything they are kind and professional. They don’t try and push services to you that are unwarranted. Highly recommend.
The staff at Regenesis have been friendly and super helpful! I can't recommend them enough!
The staff is extraordinary! I was in need of losing weight and they are making it possible. It’s so exciting to see pounds disappearing.
